Walking your way to Health

Walking for Health - Real Miles Incentive Scheme: What do I do to get started? For our current timetable of led walks please call Walking for Health on 01902 444601 or email us on walkingforhealth@wolvespct.nhs.uk All our walks are suited to people who currently don't do much walking but who want to get healthier, fitter and be happier. Walking is one of the safest and easiest forms of exercise which almost anyone can do. You don't need any special equipment to start walking and it can be easily built into your daily routine. Increase your motivation to go walking - we run a Real Miles Incentive scheme whereby you can collect real miles for each walk you attend. The more walks you do the more real miles you collect. You can then redeem your real miles for rewards such * as: · Drawstring rucksack · Free Gym passes · £5 Marks & Spencer vouchers · - rewards subject to change
How much walking should I do? You need to walk for at least 30 minutes on five or more days per week to stay fit and healthy - but remember to build up gradually. Any amount of walking is good for your health, however to really help your heart it is recommended that you walk at a pace that makes you breathe a little faster, feel warmer and gives you a slightly faster heart rate. Walk more …. Feel the difference!!

We started our Walking your Way to Health scheme walking around the local area of Phoenix Park, linked to a history tour of Blakenhall in late 2002.
It was then launched officially by the mayor of Wolverhampton in January 2003, It now goes around the new pathway system on Phoenix park, there were around a dozen regular members in July 2003, Now in 2006, we have five regular walks around the park, the take up from the Asian community is remarkably high, Phoenix Park has become very popular for walkers from all ages and backgrounds, that is not counting the other local residents that use the park for walking, some of those can be seen on the park from around 4am in the morning !! Fantastic News.
The new pathways are a big success, the park is been used more that it ever has been before, helping to keep antisocial behaviour away by natural surveillance "People on the Park" "People Power".
