The Friends of Phoenix Park - Home Page
Hi & Welcome to the Friends of Phoenix Park's Web Site, we are into our 10th year of this community project supported by the New Deal for Communities initiative which comes to an end in March 2011. We think we have done a really good job, we have managed to influence around 2M pounds of investment.

Among a host of new features and improvements carried out are the creation of a new main entrance, an adventure play area for 10 to 16-year-olds, a sensory garden, new fitness equipment, pathways being built, enhanced signage and additional seating and bins installed, (we have just lost count ) of improvements to our local park, what do you think of our efforts ?
Wolverhampton City Council has also worked with partners such as ABCD, the Friends of Phoenix Park, local residents and other stakeholders to put together a management plan to ensure the park is well run and maintained.
Alcohol Ban from May 9th 2011

On Monday May 9, 2011 Wolverhampton City Council yesterday brought in a Designation Order outlawing the drinking of alcohol within Phoenix Park, Blakenhall.
The order gives police the power to stop someone drinking alcohol in the designated area when it is believed it could lead to anti-social behaviour or disorder. Anyone who fails to comply with the request could be liable to prosecution.
The city council received a petition from local residents calling for a ban in 2010 and earlier this year held a four-week period of consultation with the public into the proposals.
Councillor Stephen Simkins, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "Phoenix Park is a wonderful facility for all the community and the investment by the city council and ABCD has transformed the park and turned it into a venue which is popular with all ages.
"The introduction of the alcohol ban will help the police protect the park and its users from the sort of anti-social behaviour that is typically fuelled by drink."
The new Supaloo has now been installed beside the car park on the Dudley Road side of the park and officially opened on Wednesday 16th March 2011. 'Cutting the ribbon' and pictured with the 'roll of honour' are: chair of the friends of Phoenix Park Vince Bailey, public protection manager Andy Hall, Blakenhall Community Association committee member Mary Garner, Executive Director of ABCD Keith Kirby, maintenance manager for J C Decaux Tim Whittle, and local councillor for Blakenhall Ward, Bob Jones.
The convenience is the final piece in the transformation jigsaw of Phoenix Park, in Blakenhall and comes following consultation with the public.
It will be operated and maintained by J C Decaux at no cost to the taxpayer using revenue made by the company from advertising on Wolverhampton City Council land.
All Saints and Blakenhall Community Development (ABCD) and advertising company J C Decaux funded the provision of the toilet.
The toilet was unveiled by Councillor Bob Jones, Andy Hall Public Protection Manager, Wolverhampton City Council and ABCD Chief Executive Director Keith Kirby.
Keith Kirby said, "we are delighted that the many visitors to this wonderful park will now I have this much needed convenience to use.
The park has been transformed with local people using it more than ever for activities such as walking-to-health, the fitness trail, children's play and not least somewhere pleasant to meet and enjoy for all the family.
The installation of this toilet can only enhance people's experience of Phoenix Park."
November 2010 saw the £1.6 million project to revamp Phoenix Park, in Blakenhall, scoop the top honour in the 'exceptional cross boundary and partnership working' in Wolverhampton City Council Adult and Community's inaugural Wulfruna Awards.
Judges praised the collaboration between All Saints and Blakenhall Community Development (ABCD), the city council and other partners including the Friends of Phoenix Park group that ensured the project was delivered.
In July 2010, Phoenix Park was awarded the coveted Green Flag award, which is handed to parks and green spaces that have demonstrated they are among the finest in the country, impressing judges with excellent facilities including well-managed green space, signage and amenities.

It is among the growing ranks of green spaces in Wolverhampton which have received prestigious Green Flag awards and joins West Park, Bantock Park and St Peter's Gardens, which have been reaccredited.
WHY NOT JOIN THE FRIENDS OF PHOENIX PARK AND GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY SPACE
The Friends of Phoenix Park are appealing for members to join the group and support the continued use and development of Phoenix Park and its facilities and to also help in the planning and delivery of future fun days and events at the park.
With the end of the ABCD New Deal programme there are no local funds available to support future Fun Days and there is no guarantee that grant funding will be found from elsewhere. To provide a fun day similar in nature to past events will require a budget of approximately £15,000. The Friends of Phoenix Park are therefore appealing for financial sponsorship and support from businesses, organisations and philanthropists in the local area to help to make sure that we continue to have an annual Community Fun Day at Phoenix Park.
If you would like to join the Friends of Phoenix Park or you are interested in sponsoring or supporting the Phoenix Fun Days then please contact;
